As a Locomotive Fueling Driver, you'll operate a specialized fuel truck to safely fuel locomotives for Class I Railroads. Approximately 90–95% of the job is performed outside the truck, making this a hands-on position.
Responsibilities include:
- Climbing in and out of your truck or locomotive steps multiple times per shift
- Safely fuel locomotives using specialized fueling equipment
- Stick fuel tanks and monitor fuel levels
- Pull hoses and operate fuel nozzles
- Work safely around active rail equipment
- Complete required inspections and documentation
- Follow all company, railroad, DOT, and safety procedures
- Be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Because rail operations run 24/7, dispatches can occur at any time during your shift. You'll be paid for the entire 12-hour shift—including breaks, lunch, and wait time—regardless of the number of dispatches received.
