• Sweeps, vacuums, buffs, strips, waxes, and dustmops assigned areas.
• Removes trash at regular intervals and as needed from rooms and buildings.
• Places trash in containers and dumpsters.
• Scrubs and cleans restrooms, including mirrors, wash basins, commodes, and sinks.
• Fills tissue, towel, and soap dispensers, and disinfects as needed.
• Dusts furniture, walls, window sills, and other woodwork.
• Stacks cafeteria chairs and/or tables as required.
• Washes windows, walls, and woodwork; dusts venetian blinds.
• Cleans drinking fountains.
• Clears school grounds as needed.
• Mows lawn, trims shrubbery, and cultivates flowers using hand tools and power tools.
• Assists with snow and ice removal, including operation of tractorli>
• Sets up rooms and spaces for special events.
• Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies.
• Performs basic repair work, including painting, minor plumbing, desk, chair, and locker repairs.
• Replaces ceiling tiles and light bulbs.
• Cleans storage rooms and equipment; orders, unloads, and stores supplies and deliveries from vehicles.
• Checks freezers and coolers to ensure functional operation.
• Checks and secures school premises to protect against vandalism and theft.
• Attends in‑service training to develop and improve knowledge and skills in building service work.
• Checks boiler(s) and circulation pump(s) if appropriate.
• Checks exit lights, fire extinguishers, and pull stations.
• Works with HVAC and electrical systems.
• Performs related tasks as assigned by the school principal.

• 21 years of age and in good physical health; can perform moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds frequently.
• High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment; genuine desire to learn during probationary period and thereafter.
• Ability to follow simple oral and written directions.
• Ability to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, push or pull objects, walk, reach above shoulders, overhead, and horizontally; operate custodian equipment and tools while subject to environmental conditions, hazards, atmospheric conditions, cleaning chemicals, and furnace or boiler by-products.
• Knowledge of HVAC and electrical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to use cleaning supplies and equipment economically and efficiently during the probationary period and thereafter.
