Responsibilities include providing individualized and specialized nursing care to patients in the ambulatory surgery center in accordance with the physician’s orders, recognized nursing standards, legal aspects of current nurse practice within the state and the center’s policies and procedures. Functions cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics. Demonstrates initiative, insight and judgment in decision making process.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the surgical team to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Organize time, equipment, supplies, and resources to ensure efficient patient care and case management.
  • Review patient medical records, assess patient needs, and develop an appropriate plan of care.
  • Educate patients and their escorts on routine care, surgical procedures, post-operative instructions, medications, and follow-up care, ensuring understanding.
  • Prepare procedure rooms with the appropriate equipment and supplies while maintaining adequate inventory levels.
  • Assist surgeons, CRNAs, and the surgical team by anticipating needs and ensuring equipment functions properly.
  • Maintain compliance with aseptic technique, patient safety standards, and accepted nursing practices throughout the surgical experience.
  • Assist with patient identification, procedure verification, safe positioning, and patient transport according to established policies and procedures.
  • Accurately document patient care, communicate patient status to the healthcare team, and carry out verbal orders appropriately.
  • Respond promptly to patient and surgical team needs to promote efficient workflow and positive patient outcomes.
Qualifications Experience
  • Evidence of leadership qualities
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • ASC experience is preferred
  • Computer literacy is preferred
  • Membership to local, state, and national societies is preferred
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
Certificate/License
  • RN with active license with the State of Virginia Board of Nursing
  • Current BCLS certification
