PROBATION OFFICER
Pay Range: $21.84 - $36.40, DOQ
The Xenia Municipal Court is seeking qualified applicants interested in serving as a full-time Probation Officer. The successful applicant will be responsible for the enforcement of all court orders and terms of probation for the Xenia Municipal Court. This is an armed position requiring qualified candidates to meet all applicable training and certification requirements.
Qualifications- Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license
- Must remain insurable under the Court's vehicle insurance policy
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field; and/or a combination of three (3) to five (5) or more years of relevant work experience in probation, corrections, law enforcement, case management, social services, counseling, or a related field
- Must have or ability to complete the O.P.O.T.C. Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training program, or successfully complete a different firearms qualification program recognized by the O.P.O.T.C. and maintain qualifications under applicable Ohio law to function as an armed probation officer
- Ability to successfully pass a background investigation, drug screening, and any additional pre-employment requirements established by the Court
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations
- Must be proficient in report writing, case documentation, and computer-based case management systems.
- Supervises adult misdemeanor offenders placed on probation by the Court
- Conducts interviews, assessments, and investigations to gather offender information and determine supervision needs
- Monitors compliance with court-ordered conditions, including treatment programs, community service, restitution, and other sanctions
- Maintains accurate case files, records, and reports utilizing case management systems
- Prepares reports and recommendations for the Court regarding offender progress, violations, and sentencing matters
- Conducts office visits, field visits, home visits, and employment verifications as necessary
- Performs drug and alcohol screening and coordinate with treatment providers and community agencies
- Investigates probation violations and initiate appropriate enforcement actions
- Executes warrants and make arrests as authorized by law and Court policy
- Maintains proficiency with assigned firearms and other authorized equipment
- Testifies in court proceedings and provide information to judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and other stakeholders

Starting Pay (Non-Certified): $35.95
