CNC Machinist

Sets up and operates various types of tool and cutter grinding machines including CNC controlled tool and cutter grinders (ANCA and Walter), profile grinders (Waida PGX-2000 & PGX-3000 Tru Tech), Manual cutter grinders, OD Grinders and Vollmer EDM machine to fabricate form tools, modify standard tools, and sharpen/resharpen a wide variety of tools and cutters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Reviews blueprints and job orders to plan production sequence.
• Works from tool design drawings, prints, sketches, tooling standards manual, tool orders, verbal instructions and prints of parts and applicable grinding charts.
• Operates grinders to form-grind and sharpen cutting tools.
• Holds dimensions to exacting tolerances with respect to other segments of the total form. Tolerances include (.0001” to .0005”) as required.
• Selects, mounts, and aligns various types of machine fixtures, grinding wheels, and work-holding devices.
• Trues and dresses grinding wheel to specified angles, curves, radii, and shapes.
• Determines, sets, and adjusts wheel speeds, feeds, amount of grind, and makes other machine adjustments.
• Measures shape of tool being fabricated or sharpened to verify conformance to specifications, using fixed gauges, micrometers, calipers, optical comparators.
• Makes continuous machine adjustments and redresses wheel to produce and maintain designated form and to sharpen such tools with proper rake angles, primary and secondary relief angles, cutting lands, dish-out, radii, and diameters.
• Performs rework and modification of cutters as required.
• Knowledge of abrasives and metal properties.
• Exhibits excellent team working and communication skills.
• Complies and participates with ISO procedures and company policies.
• Participates in controlling inventory of supplies and spare components.
• Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.

High school diploma or completion of an accredited GED program required.

Three years of related experience preferred.

Ability to read, write, comprehend and effectively communicate in English.

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Duties require broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Associate will work in a normal manufacturing environment. The associate is subject to high noise levels from operating machines, fumes, dusts and mists found in normal manufacturing environment. Regularly required to stand, walk, bend and lift objects of up to 60 lbs. Skin exposure to oils, grinding and cleaning fluids.

Associate is required to follow other job related duties, subject to all Local, State and Federal laws and applicable regulations.

The incumbent must successfully perform all requirements of the position’s training plan specified by the department manager.
