Paraprofessional

Under the direct supervision of an assigned Special Education Techer and/or Special Education Director/Principal, the Special Education Paraprofessional will assist with supervision and instructional activities (including but not limited to the development of academic, social, and independence/self-care skills) as related to the identified needs of students with individualized education programs (IEPs) within the Developmental Learning Center classroom.

Half of the school day may be spent 1:1 with a student.

This position is distinguished from the certified teaching staff by accreditation requirements and performance of duties not requiring lesson planning, diagnosing, and prescribing or evaluating student progress.

Examples of Typical Tasks:

* Work closely with the Special Education Teacher in remediating learning deficiencies;

* Assist in supervising and maintaining classroom and transitions

* Maintain files on individual student's progress as directed.

* Maintain a positive learning environment

* Maybe required to assist students with self-care needs (personal hygiene, toileting, feeding, etc)

* Data collection on IEP goals and objectives

* Implement programs (academic, social skills, behavioral, etc) as directed by the teacher

* Support student(s) as needed in required learning setting (general education or special education, recess, lunch, etc)

* Direct individual and group activities

* Assist with addressing the health and safety needs of student(s).

* Support district policy on education and respect the confidentiality of students.

* Attend approved workshops to enhance abilities to work with students.

* Meet all timelines for time sheets, travel vouchers and data collection required.

* Dress in proper taste to be a role model for students.

* Perform other duties as required by the building principal.

Minimum Qualifications

Paraprofessional must fulfill one of the three following requirements:

* Complete at least two years of study at an institutional of higher education; or

* Obtain an associate (or higher) degree; or

* Pass ETS paraprofessional assessment

Applicant is required to be Safety Care trained as soon as possible following hiring.
