Job DescriptionPosition: Business and Marketing Teacher
Location: West Valley High School
Minimum Qualifications- Career and Technical Education (CTE) Initial or Continuing Certification in Business Education (V070000) and Marketing Education (V4080000) OR Business and Marketing Education (V078000)
- Consideration may be given to applicants who can verify 6,000 hours of required experience for the needed OSPI VCode(s). Submit documentation or an explanation of the required work experience with the application. Applicants must complete CTE certification within 18 months of hire.
- Required for Central Washington University – College in the High School:
Master’s in Economics or related field. An MA in teaching is acceptable with required experience as approved by CWU—3+ years of teaching experience in a related field. - Evidence of successful teaching courses in a similar setting, including Business, Marketing, and Economics.
- Business and industry experience.
- Evidence of providing for students’ individual learning styles (basic levels and extension beyond basics).
- Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
- Dynamic, student‑involving, hands‑on instruction style.
- Assume responsibility for courses such as Intro to Business, Economics, High School 101, Photography, and related courses/programs at the high school.
- Organize and supervise the school’s high‑performing DECA CTSO.
- Assume responsibility for maintaining and operating the school store and high school credit union.
- Collaborate with other programs and departments throughout the district.
- Fulfill CTE required duties, including all advisory meetings, framework updates, OSPI requirements and paperwork, and partnering with local employers.
- Maintain and develop Industry Recognized Credentials and dual credit agreements.
- Utilize student assessment data to formulate instructional decisions.
- Actively engage students in the learning process using interactive, problem‑solving and research‑based instructional methods.
- Regularly incorporate choice and voice in instruction, assessment and performance.
- Maintain a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
- Provide differentiated instruction to meet diversified student learning needs.
- Incorporate technology into the instructional process.
- Create relationships/connections with students, staff and community members to create a collaborative learning environment.
- Develop reading/writing relevance for all students, including the incorporation of work‑based reading and writing skills within the curriculum.
- Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
- Engage with other department members in professional learning communities, development of common assessment standards, and other aspects that ensure every student has the opportunity for a rigorous and relevant education.
- Advocate for students who need support to be successful.
- Regularly assess student work, input grades into Family Access, and contact parents about student performance/behavior in the classroom.
- Participate in workshops and training sessions that support district programs and goals, including the West Valley School District professional growth program (TAP/ACCEL).
- Implement the requirements of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.
- Supervise a variety of student activities outside the regular school day.
- Mentor a set of students through all phases of career education, portfolio development, high school and beyond plan.
