Job DescriptionWest Valley Innovation Center (WVIC) Counselor supports students at the West Valley Innovation Center, where we redefine the traditional classroom by treating our students as Innovators.
Our curriculum is built on career-connected programming for Grades 7-12, where academic standards in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies are woven directly into Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. Students interested in Computer Science, Health Science, STEM Aerospace, or STEM Robotics build "well-rounded citizen skills" – a blend of rigorous academics, technical mastery, and professional habits. The Innovation Center is a Mastery‑Based Learning and Project‑Based Learning school.
Minimum Qualifications- Valid Washington State Counselor Certification
- Experience in a middle school or high school counseling setting
- Understanding of Washington Graduation Requirements
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Washington state teaching endorsement
- Bilingual preferred
- Guide students in course selection aligned with CTE pathways and academic standards
- Monitor credit accumulation, graduation requirements, HSBP, and progress toward completion using the building and district platforms
- Develop and implement 504 plans in collaboration with families and staff
- Attend IEP and transition meetings
- Assist students and families in need of McKinney‑Vento and foster care services
- Facilitate Career Pathways planning and High School and Beyond Plan development
- Plan and coordinate the Ram Strong advisory schedule to support student connection and skill development
- Conduct meetings with students and families requiring additional academic or social‑emotional support
- Provide individual and small‑group social‑emotional learning interventions
- Serve as an active member of the school’s Multi‑tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team
- Foster a culture of safety, belonging, and innovation aligned with WVIC’s mission
- Maintain accurate, confidential student records in compliance with district and state regulations
- Ensure proper documentation of standards mastery and real‑world skill development
- Support students in college, career, and post‑secondary planning
- Collaborate on FAFSA completion initiatives and financial aid awareness events
- Guide students in translating project‑based learning experiences into college/career applications
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance program effectiveness
- Collaborate with the WVVA Counselor on shared initiatives and projects
- Collaborate with others to organize the building’s graduation ceremony
