Position Overview

Yakima Valley College seeks innovative Adjunct Teacher Education Instructors in the Workforce Education Division. Available positions are part‑time, non‑tenure track. This posting is hiring for multiple positions. The Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education (BAS‑TE) program is seeking instructors with expertise in elementary education, health and fitness instruction, knowledge of history of education, social studies methods in K‑8, as well as supporting students with disabilities, including IEP, 504, and IDEA Act provisions.

Position Responsibilities

Reporting to the Dean – Workforce Education, the Teacher Education Instructor demonstrates a commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilizes appropriate technology in the classroom, and has a record as a successful teacher demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Workforce Education Division. The Teacher Education Instructor finds ways to utilize cooperative learning and utilizes an applied approach to learning.

Compensation

Salary: $920 per Instructional Unit (IU). Up to 10 IUs per quarter.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach 300/400 level courses as assigned within the Teacher Education program in person, hybrid and/or online as assigned.
  • Update BAS‑TE curriculum as required by the institution or industry trends.
  • Collaborate with department team members.
  • Maintain currency in the field of study.
  • Be well versed in educational theory and practice.
  • Be responsive to students with regard to assessments and communications.
  • Meet college deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned master’s degree in education from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of certificated teaching experience.
  • Experience developing curriculum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in elementary education.
  • Experience teaching at the community college level.
  • Experience teaching education courses.
  • Knowledge of critical theory.
  • Ability to communicate knowledge and skills in both oral and written forms to students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, education, and cultural backgrounds.
Ability To
  • Teach in person, on site at the Yakima or Grandview campus and hybrid or online as assigned.
  • Create and update curriculum for specified course content in Teaching Education – Elementary Education (K‑8).
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance student learning.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, staff, and students as part of an education team.
  • Complete grading and respond to students in a timely manner.
  • Be student centered and focused on creating an environment conducive to meeting their learning needs.
  • Continually upgrade knowledge and skills in order to maintain relevant curriculum.
