ELD Elementary GLAD Teacher on Specialist Assignment

  • Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB for employees working at least 630 hours per academic year. Additional benefits may include vacation, sick, personal days, and paid holidays.

Position Requirements

This position requires a Washington State Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsement to teach in the content areas of this posting. Endorsements include Elementary Education, ELL, and GLAD Agency Trainer.

Salary depends on prior certificated experience, approved credits, earned degrees, and FTE. See current salary schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the development, preparation, and operation of Title III, ESD and Refugee programs.
  • Assist the Director of ELD in implementing and monitoring district ESD and Refugee Education programs.
  • Assist the Director of ELD in planning, writing, and implementing grant proposals related to Title III, TBIP, and RSIG.
  • Provide technical assistance and staff development to ELD teachers and school staff regarding English language development and instruction of English language learners.
  • Act as an instructional leader in the areas of English language development, education of English language learners, and parent involvement.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Title III, TBIP, RSIG federal program guidelines and maintain required documentation.
  • Collaborate with Title 1‑A in literacy development for English language learners.
  • Collaborate with district grant programs through institutions of higher education.
  • Assist in curriculum development and reporting activities for the programs.
  • Support family literacy activities and community outreach programs.
  • Maintain an ongoing program of professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use research‑based principles of effective instruction.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating district ESD staff meetings or collaborations.
  • Assist in the preparation of testing and evaluation procedures for ELD and Refugee education.
  • Provide professional development for instructional coaches, teachers, and building administrators.
  • Analyze group testing results and make recommendations for improvement of instructional programs and instructional strategies.
  • Lead data‑driven dialogue to improve instruction within instructional coaches, teachers, and administrators.
  • Manage, contribute to, and serve on committees of district‑wide scope. Represent the district as appropriate.
  • Work independently to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrate responsiveness and flexibility.
  • Utilize and maintain district/building curricular and student learning goals.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of ELD.
  • Maintain positive communication with district employees throughout Spokane Public Schools via email and telephone calls.
Qualifications
  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate, master’s degree in education or demonstrated experience and professional learning opportunities, with an endorsement in ELD or its equivalent.
  • Three (3) years successful teaching experience in ELD instruction at the elementary or secondary level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective leadership and instructional practices leading to high levels of student engagement and achievement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of socially just practices and strategies that enhance student achievement.
  • Demonstrated ability in utilizing culturally responsive strategies to work effectively with administrators, teachers, and union leaders to improve classroom instruction.
