Classroom/Kitchen Aide - Early Learning Center Position Summary

  • Assist classroom staff in implementing daily activities and routines that support children’s learning, development, health, and safety.
  • Prepare classroom materials, supplies, meals, and snacks in accordance with ECEAP, DCYF, and CACFP requirements.
  • Maintain safe, clean, organized, and sanitary classroom, kitchen, and food service environments.
  • Support developmental, health, and program screenings, documentation, and recordkeeping as assigned.
  • Follow program policies and procedures related to child supervision, behavior support, health, safety, food handling, and mandated reporting.
  • Interact positively and respectfully with children, families, staff, volunteers, and community members using culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Support family engagement activities, classroom events, and overall program operations as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of child and family information in accordance with program requirements and applicable laws.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of:

  • ECEAP Performance Standards, DCYF licensing requirements, and CACFP guidelines.
  • Child development, early learning, and developmentally appropriate practices for preschool-aged children.
  • Positive behavior support, classroom management, health, safety, and sanitation practices.
  • Culturally responsive practices and working with diverse children and families.

Skill in:

  • Building positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
  • Working effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer and technology skills, including email, word processing, and data entry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability To:

  • Supervise children and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment.
  • Organize and complete assignments accurately, efficiently, and within required timelines.
  • Communicate effectively with children and adults from diverse backgrounds.
  • Respond appropriately and quickly to accidents, emergencies, or child safety needs.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and positive working relationships with staff, families, and the public.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in classroom, kitchen, and food service settings within an early learning environment. The position involves frequent interaction with children, families, and staff in active and fast-paced settings.
  • Responsibilities include maintaining safe, clean, and organized classroom and kitchen environments and may involve exposure to cleaning products, food preparation equipment, and moderate noise levels typical of early childhood programs.

Physical Demands
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following conditions

Significant (66%+ of the time):

  • Standing and walking for extended periods while supporting classroom and kitchen activities.
  • Frequent interaction, supervision, and engagement with young children.
  • Using hands and fingers for food preparation, cleaning, classroom activities, and operating kitchen or classroom equipment.

Frequent (33-66% of the time):

  • Bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and moving throughout classroom and kitchen environments.
  • Lifting and carrying classroom materials, food supplies, or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Pushing and pulling food carts and cleaning or sanitizing classroom and kitchen surfaces and equipment.

Occasional (up to 33% of the time):

  • Lifting or moving items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Assisting children with movement, positioning, or personal care needs as appropriate.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during playground supervision or program activities.
