7 hours a day, 5 days a week (Monday-Thursday preschool, Friday resource room). The role assists in the supervision and instruction of students across various settings, providing general support to assigned certificated teachers. Directly reported to classroom teacher and building principal.
Essential Functions- Assist students individually or in small groups in learning activities assigned by the teacher.
- Follow a structured teaching and learning plan and provide direct instruction tutoring.
- Assist students in understanding whole group instruction and guide independent work.
- Provide practice on identified skill areas and incorporate IEP requirements into daily lesson plans.
- Maintain records and charts indicating students’ progress and inform the classroom teacher.
- Maintain classroom equipment, work areas, and student files/records.
- Monitor student behavior, discipline students as authorized, and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Teach and reinforce appropriate behavior, restrain students from harm, and perform record keeping and clerical functions.
- Provide one-to-one assistance with changing, diapering, personal hygiene, feeding, tube feeding, and mainstream students in general education settings.
- Serve as chief source of information for substitute teachers, attend meetings and trainings, and fulfill other related duties.
- Drive students to school and community settings in district vehicle.
- Provide temporary bus riding hours and keep certification in Right Response De‑Escalation and Restraint updated yearly.
- Maintain high ethical behavior, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
- Utilize medical/safety precautions, including positioning and transferring students.
- Assist other personnel as required for an efficient work environment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least one of the following:
- 2‑year post‑secondary degree or more.
- 72 quarter credits at a post‑secondary institution.
- Passed ETS Paraprofessional Assessment.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Ability to tutor individuals and groups, follow structured plans, operate standard office equipment, and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of high‑school level math, grammar, punctuation, child development stages, and learning styles.
- Ability to communicate effectively, adapt to individual needs, be innovative, maintain confidentiality, and work flexibly with diverse individuals.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move equipment.
Desired: previous experience working with students who have autism.
Continuing Education/TrainingCPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate may be required.
Work Schedule6.5 hours per day, 4 days per week. Starting immediately.
