Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional, Elementary School
The job of teacher, Center for Juvenile Detention Services, is done for the purpose of planning course instruction, selecting instructional materials, providing one-on-one and group instruction as needed, maintaining records of student progress, and managing classroom behavior in one or more of the following areas: language arts, math, history, science, and life/job skills.
This position is full-time during the school year (184 days), with the possibility of additional days for 2026/2027 summer school. Position will start August 21, 2026.
It is anticipated that the salary will increase by 2.6% effective September 1, 2026.
- Instructs students individually or in groups for the purpose of optimizing development of each student and helping to enhance their academic skills.
- Assess students’ educational strengths and weaknesses for the purpose of documenting progress and developing individualized curricula.
- Prepares teaching materials for the purpose of adapting lessons to meet the individual needs of students.
- Develops course outlines and daily lesson plans for the purpose of selecting appropriate curriculum materials to address individual learning styles.
- Maintains security measures within the classroom for the purpose of complying with detention center policies and enforcing safety rules.
- Manages classroom behavior of students for the purpose of utilizing behavior modifications and established discipline rules.
- Monitors students for the purpose of evaluating their behavior daily and enforcing security and safety rules.
- Models respect, responsibility, and accountability for the purpose of demonstrating positive behavior for students.
- Participates in activities that promote professional development for the purpose of using clinical and educational research to enhance services.
- Attends various educational workshops, seminars, in-services, etc. for the purpose of maintaining professional knowledge.
- Supervises one or more paraprofessionals for the purpose of maximizing their efficiency and meeting work requirements.
- Works as a member of a team for the purpose of providing consistency throughout the classroom setting with respect to the management of student behavior.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
