Overview
Position:
Planner III – Yakima County Public Services Planning Division
Type:
Regular Non‑Exempt (eligible for overtime)
Pay Range: $35.83 – $45.44 per hour (CTP Pay Plan, C43 Step 1‑13)
Hiring Range: $35.83 – $38.02 per hour (CTP Pay Plan, C43 Step 1‑4 DOQ)

- Perform planning analyses for routine to complex development project applications.
- Participate in early assistance meetings with customers and provide feasibility, cost, and timeline estimates.
- Represent the Planning Division on Multi‑Disciplinary Teams (MDT) and contribute to project decisions.
- Provide technical guidance to project coordinators and review applications for completeness.
- Prepare SEPA threshold environmental determinations and mitigation measures.
- Evaluate projects and recommend options and conditions ensuring consistency with plans, policies, regulations, and criteria.
- Draft final written analyses, findings, and conditions for MDT decisions.
- Represent the MDT position at hearing bodies as assigned.
- Provide policy and technical assistance on land development, environmental protection, and growth management.
- Develop, coordinate, and participate in public education/outreach efforts and special studies.
- Schedule, coordinate, collect, assemble, and prepare data, projections, and reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Geography, Geology, or related field.
- Three (3) years of increasing responsibility in professional planning, including SEPA, transportation, subdivision, zoning, or comprehensive planning.
- Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license at time of appointment.
- Completed general employment verification.
- Preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish; experience with Washington State land‑use law; specialized training in SEPA, GMA, critical areas, shorelines; additional degrees, certifications, or licenses.
