Overview
Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) – Dual Language (English/Spanish) vacancy in the Community Corrections Division.
Location:
Yakima West Field Office, 210 North 2nd Street, Yakima, WA 98901.
Shift hours: , Monday‑Friday.
Salary depends on qualifications. Monthly salary ranges:
CCO1 Step G: $5,338/month;
CCO2 ranges from $5,610 to $7,540 per month.
- Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests.
- Complete intake and administer assessments (risk, needs, substance abuse).
- Manage electronic and hard‑copy files and reports.
- Engage supervised individuals using communication strategies such as Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions.
- Enforce supervision conditions and the law, presenting accurate documentation to courts and recommending sanctions.
- Identify, collect, document, and maintain evidence and information with proper chain of custody.
- Exercise sound judgment and follow department policies regarding firearms, safety vest requirements, and overall safety measures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications – CCO1
- Ability to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
- Unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington.
- Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds; review graphic materials and remain objective.
- Demonstrated ability through coursework or experience in three or more of the following:
- Written communication
- Critical thinking
- Analytical reasoning
- Conflict resolution
- Situational awareness
- Problem solving and organizational skill
- Independent work
- Flexibility
- One of the following educational or experience combinations:
- High school diploma or GED plus at least four years of qualifying experience.
- Associate degree plus two years of qualifying experience.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Equivalent combination totaling four years.
Required Qualifications – CCO2
- Ability to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
- Unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in Washington.
- Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds; review graphic materials and remain objective.
- Demonstrated ability through coursework or professional experience in three or more of the following:
- Field visits
- Written correspondence and reports
- Case assessment and recommendation
- Resource referrals
- Presenting cases in court or hearings
- Risk assessment completion
- Treatment plan facilitation
- Record management and tracking compliance
- Support for individuals without independent access to resources
- Sound case management under stress
- Computer and data entry skills
- Caseload management
- Communicating with stakeholders
- Independent and collaborative work with community stakeholders
- One of the following educational or experience combinations:
- One year experience as a CCO within DOC.
- Associate degree plus three years of professional experience.
- Bachelor’s degree plus one year of professional experience.
- Equivalent combination totaling five years.
- Complete felony disclosure form and submit to a criminal background check.
- Complete and pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation).
- Submit to drug testing per agency policy.
- Complete mandatory training, including orientation, periodic training, Firearms Academy, and Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT).
- Maintain firearm qualifications and requalification training annually.
The position is permanent with benefits including retirement under the Washington Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) and the Public Safety Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS). Telework may be allocated for up to one day per week.
Up to one day per week may be performed remotely from the employee’s home or another off‑site location within Washington. Employees must maintain confidentiality, use reliable internet or cellular hotspot services, and ensure all state‑issued equipment is properly cared for.
