Position: Pharmacist Yakama Service Unit (YSU)

Position Summary

Akicita Federal is hiring a Pharmacist to deliver essential pharmaceutical care to American Indian and Alaska Native patients through the Indian Health Service's Yakama Service Unit in Toppenish, WA. This role sits at the heart of a busy outpatient pharmacy, where your clinical expertise directly improves medication safety, chronic disease management, and continuity of care for an underserved community. You'll work alongside dedicated medical staff to keep pharmacy operations running smoothly and ensure every patient receives safe, accurate, and compassionate pharmaceutical support.

Responsibilities
  • Verify, fill, and dispense outpatient prescriptions with a high standard of accuracy and safety, reviewing each order for clinical appropriateness before dispensing.
  • Counsel patients on medication use, proper storage, potential side effects, and necessary precautions during each applicable encounter.
  • Administer immunizations and conduct blood pressure screenings in accordance with clinical guidelines and facility policies.
  • Document all pharmacy services and patient interactions completely and accurately within IHS electronic health record systems, including RPMS, EHR, and Script Pro.
  • Collaborate with on-site pharmacy staff and medical providers to maintain seamless workflow integration and uninterrupted service during scheduled clinic hours.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, IHS, and facility‑specific regulations governing medication storage, handling, dispensing, and patient safety.
  • Coordinate service scheduling and coverage planning with the facility's designated point of contact to prevent gaps in pharmacy operations.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience providing pharmacy services in an Indian Health Service, Tribal, or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting.
  • Familiarity with IHS‑specific systems such as RPMS and the IHS pharmacy module.
  • Background in chronic disease management pharmacotherapy, particularly for conditions prevalent in Native American populations (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease).
  • Experience delivering immunizations and conducting clinical screenings in an outpatient environment.
  • Comfort operating in a high‑volume, team‑based outpatient clinic with diverse patient needs and varying workload demands.
