Machinist 1 - Externship

Based in Yakima, WA, Triumph Actuation and Landing Gear Systems designs, manufactures, assembles, tests, and provides MRO services for aerospace products and systems that include hydraulic actuators, hydraulic valves, manifolds, hydraulic fuses, and repeatable release holdback bars. - Yakima is a leading provider of landing gear actuation and a sole supplier of critical repeatable release holdback bars used for launching U.S. Navy fighter jets from aircraft carriers.

Responsibilities

Machinist Externship (Part Time)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Overview

This program provides hands‑on, industry‑aligned training designed to support students and emerging professionals seeking real‑world machining experience. Participants will gain exposure to machining processes, shop safety, and the technical skills needed for future roles in manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist machinists with set‑up, operation, and basic maintenance of machining equipment
  • Support production tasks including part handling, measurement, and documentation
  • Learn and apply shop safety procedures and best practices
  • Read and follow work instructions, drawings, and basic measurement requirements
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Enrollment in or completion of the Precision Machining Certification Program at JM Perry Technical Institute
  • Strong interest in machining, manufacturing, or mechanical trades
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to learn in a fast‑paced environment

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to perform applied math calculations (measurements, conversions, tolerances)
  • Familiarity with precision measuring tools
  • Basic understanding of machining processes or mechanical systems
  • Ability to read simple part drawings or blueprints

Compensation: $21.00/Hour
