Position: WDVA Nursing Assistant Certified, Full-Time Perm (Day), Spokane Veterans Home

Spokane Veterans Home – Nursing Assistant Certified

Help us continue to fulfill our mission of "Serving Those Who Served" by providing essential quality of life care for Veterans. We are now accepting applications for a full‑time, permanent nursing assistant certified position at the Spokane Veterans Home.

Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with positioning, transferring, and ambulation, ensuring a safe work environment and preventative infection control.
  • Respond to call lights, internal and external emergencies, and facility codes.
  • Record care, vital signs, and observations.
  • Assist residents with personal clothing, belongings, grooming, and hygiene.
  • Assist with therapies and treatments under the direction of licensed personnel; perform motion exercises as needed.
  • Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data; document intake/output records.
  • Perform basic nursing procedures such as applying anti‑embolism stockings, creams or lotions, and collecting specimens.
  • Support residents in activities of daily living and maintain a positive living environment.
Qualifications
  • Current and valid Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification.
  • Current active status on OBRA (Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) check.
  • Proficiency in the English language, able to read, write, and speak English.
  • High School graduation or GED.
  • At least 6 months of experience in customer service in a health‑care setting or direct patient care.
  • Ability to perform data entry and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to meet psychosocial needs of residents, follow written and verbal directions, and document observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
  • Agency required competencies: willingness to learn and grow, and to meet the needs of others.
Preferred/Desired
  • Accurate methods and practices to assist residents with activities of daily care, personal hygiene, sanitation, record keeping, infection control, and resident rights.
Special Requirements
  • Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years as required by WDVA Policy 615.000.
  • Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000.
  • Undergo medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
  • Be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and reach a minimum of 36 inches using proper technique.
  • Maintain a valid practical nursing license from the State of Washington Department of Health.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
  • Complete required orientation and ongoing training within mandated time frames.
  • Familiarize with all DVA policies, procedures, and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
  • Hold a valid, unrestricted driver’s license if travel is required for the position.
  • Candidates must possess work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship for a visa now or in the future.
