School Nurse Position

RN or LPN Required
Provide school nurse services for students at one elementary school - direct services and development of Emergency Care Plans for students.
Schedule:
6.5 hours per day.
Pay rate: $33-$40 per hour (Depending on licensure)
Work days follow the student school calendar with 32.5 additional hours prior to the start of school to facilitate Emergency Care Plans.
Provide health services for students based on students needs.
Oversee health room.
Review medication schedule for students on a monthly basis.
Develop Emergency Care Plans for students with life threatening conditions including students with diabetes, asthma, and other health conditions.
Work with staff and families to develop Individual Education Plans and 504 Plans for students with disabilities.
Educate staff (including Transportation and Child Nutrition staff) regarding student Emergency Care Plans.
Review Emergency Care Plans annually. Coordinate transitions between buildings, i.e. Elementary School to Middle School.
Facilitate training for staff regarding student health concerns, including annual training for asthma symptoms, treatment and monitoring of students with asthma as per RCW
Facilitate training for staff regarding Anaphylaxis Prevention as per District Policy 3420
Facilitate staff training for gastro-tube feeding and other specific health procedures as needed.
Facilitate annual HIV/AIDS education for students (5-12) as per RCW 28A.230.070 (1).
Serve as classroom guest speaker for sexual health units as needed.
Train, supervise, and delegate authority to designated staff members who administer those medications specified under school district policy.
Coordinate health screenings (vision and hearing) with school staff and when necessary, train volunteers on how to conduct the screenings.
Document activities completed in the above areas to meet state and district rules and regulations in health services.
Document errors/omissions in medication and other health procedures in accordance with district policy.
Assist staff to monitor student compliance with immunization requirements set forth in district policy and state law.
Communicate regularly with District Lead Nurse.
Communicate regularly with health professionals and families regarding student needs.
Communicate regularly with staff regarding student needs and state/district requirements.
Serve as a resource for information regarding communicable, infectious disease, immunizations and preventive medicine.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), BSN preferred, be adaptable, enjoy working with people.
Bilingual Preferred
Communicates regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff. Required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors; required to deal with a wide range of physical and emotional disabilities; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.
The daily work is performed in a classroom setting. May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather; participate in daily physical education classes; take several brisk walks per day; lift, move, and position students and equipment; supervise the playground, bus loading/unloading; attend to students' personal hygiene; may be exposed to biting, spitting, and hitting behavior; may need to take precautions to avoid exposure to student bodily fluids and cleaning or disinfecting compounds;
required to work in non-routine positions for extended periods.
Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: tutoring individual and/or groups of students; following a structured teaching and learning plan; operating standard office equipment and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge is required to assure proper conduct of students; maintain record keeping systems, utilize technology equipment; perform high school level math, read a variety of manuals; present information to others; understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles.
