The School Safety Operations Specialist provides consultation, training, technical assistance, and operational support to strengthen school safety, emergency preparedness, and crisis response efforts across the ESD 105 region. This position partners with member districts to implement comprehensive school safety practices, coordinate preparedness activities, maintain safety systems and documentation, and support compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
Working collaboratively with district personnel, emergency responders, and community partners, the School Safety Operations Specialist supports planning, communication, data management, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts while promoting safe and secure learning environments.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities Knowledge of:- School safety, emergency preparedness, crisis response, and incident management principles and practices.
- Federal, state, and local laws, regulations, guidance, and best practices related to school safety and security.
- Emergency operations planning, threat assessment, violence prevention, behavioral health, suicide prevention, and bullying prevention strategies.
- School safety technologies, data management systems, records management, and documentation practices.
- Adult learning principles and effective training, facilitation, and consultation practices.
- Planning, organizing, and coordinating multiple projects, trainings, emergency preparedness activities, and school safety initiatives.
- Delivering training, presentations, coaching, facilitation, and technical assistance to diverse audiences.
- Maintaining accurate records, documentation, reports, and operational data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communication during routine operations and emergency situations.
- Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, technology platforms, databases, and other software applications to support program operations.
- Interpret and consistently apply laws, regulations, policies, procedures, protocols, and school safety practices.
- Analyze information, identify needs, and recommend practical solutions to strengthen school safety and emergency preparedness systems.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with school personnel, public agencies, emergency responders, and community partners.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment when handling sensitive information.
- Work independently while managing multiple priorities and contributing as part of a collaborative team.
- Adapt to changing priorities, district needs, and emergency situations while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
- Travel throughout the ESD 105 region to provide consultation, training, and technical assistance.
- Work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, emergency response activities, and community events, as required.
- Performed in a variety of settings, including ESD offices, school districts, emergency operations environments, training locations, and community partner sites throughout the ESD 105 region.
- Requires regular travel to schools and partner agencies to provide consultation, training, technical assistance, and operational support.
