TRUCK SHOP MECHANIC

Job Purpose

To diagnose, repair, and maintain a fleet of trucks, ensuring their safe and efficient operation. This includes conducting preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and performing necessary repairs to various truck systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in trucks and trailers, including brakes, engines, transmissions, differentials, and electrical systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in various truck components, utilizing diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and identify potential hazards.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance performed, and parts used.
  • Order and manage inventory of necessary parts and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and drivers regarding the status of repairs and maintenance.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations within the shop environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • May be required to perform road calls or emergency repairs as needed.
Qualifications Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
  • 2+ years of experience as a truck mechanic
  • Experience with diesel engines
  • Experience with hydraulic systems
  • Experience with electrical systems
  • Experience with brake systems
  • Experience with preventative maintenance
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical problems
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to lift heavy objects
