Foreman Craftsman

Summary

You will serve as a Foreman I Craftsman, leading a work crew in the accomplishment of Upper Columbia Area operations, maintenance and repair to the equipment and facilities assigned to the Yakima Field Office, and performs regular non-supervisory craftsman-level work also.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

• Leads a team of tradesmen to maintain and repair equipment and facilities related to water storage and conveyance systems (canals).
• Performs multiple trade skills at the journeyman level.
• Has general knowledge of several other trade skills and proper work methods.
• Ensures safe work practices are established and followed.
• Estimates, schedules, plans, and executes work tasks in a timely and professional manner.
• Communicates instructions and assignments to staff and communicates regularly with the supervisor.

There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.

Pre-employment and random alcohol and drug testing are required. You will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive test is received. A physical examination will be required, or a statement regarding physical ability will need to be completed. You must maintain physical fitness standards throughout employment. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority. This is a bargaining unit position represented by Local Union No. 77. You must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old with additional conditions as listed (high school graduation or equivalent, vocational training, or active enrollment under a student employment program).*

You will be evaluated using Category Rating procedures, with veterans  preference considered within each category. Competencies include:
Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision;
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading);
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair;
Knowledge of materials;
