The Victim Assistance Specialist will provide a variety of services to victims.
Duties include:
- Assess victims’ immediate needs and provide referrals to available resources.
- Assist AUSAs in locating victims, assessing testimonial readiness, and offering recommendations about potential challenges.
- Provide in‑court support, including courtroom orientation and a safe waiting area separate from defendants and counsel.
- Coordinate with federal, state, local law enforcement and victim service providers to develop comprehensive assistance plans and share information on new programs.
- U.S. Citizenship or National status.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment background checks, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
- Registration with Selective Service if applicable.
- Eligibility to meet all qualification requirements at the closing date of the announcement.
- Specialized Experience
:
One full year of experience equivalent to GS‑07 in federal service, directly working with victims of various victimization, advocating for crime victims, providing case status information, in‑court support, or obtaining services for victims. - Education
:
One of the following in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Victimology, Criminal Justice):- Master’s or equivalent graduate degree; or
- Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or
- LL.B. or J.D. if related.
- Combining Education and Experience
:
Graduated education exceeding one full year combined with specialized experience meeting the GS‑07 level.
