Municipal Court Cashier - Bilingual​/Biliterate English

The City of Yakima Municipal Court needs a bilingual/biliterate English/Spanish cashier to be the welcoming face that helps residents navigate payments, court processes, and everyday questions with clarity, patience, and respect.

The cashier performs a wide variety of responsible, moderately difficult cashiering tasks in the receipt and handling of fines, payments, and court cases for City Municipal Court. Supports the court by performing complex clerical duties for all case types many with the potential to affect a person's civil liberties to include incarceration and loss of privilege to drive.

Requires high school diploma or GED and 24 months of increasingly responsible clerical and cashiering experience.

Experience should be from a fast-paced customer service professional business/office environment requiring a high level of multi-tasking and data entry within various computer application programs;. (e.g. bank teller; hospital registrar; public licensing rep.)Previous legal experience and/or working knowledge of legal terminology is strongly preferred.

Ability to work under stress is critical.

Fluent bilingual/biliterate English/Spanish competency is preferred and will be verified though a Civil Service exam.

Must be able to type net 30 WPM without error.

Candidates must pass a background investigation regarding applicant's aptitude, character, judgment, credit, driving record and criminal history prior to hire.
