Title: .5 Assistant Track & Field Coach (Boy’s/Girl’s)
Primary Function: Serve as an .5 Assistant Coach of the West Valley Boy’s/Girl’s Track & Field Program, coaching JV and Varsity athletes and applying knowledge and experience in track and field.
Reports To: West Valley High School Principal, Athletic Director, and Head Track & Field Coach.
Time: March – May (Spring Sports Season); 13 weeks per season; 63‑78 days with students; 15‑30 hours per week.
Responsibilities- Attend coach meetings, practice sessions, and meets as scheduled.
- Assist in the organization and conduct of practices and meets.
- Provide the Athletic Director with copies of practice schedules and plans.
- Mentor under the guidance of the Head Coach.
- Enforce WVSD and WIAA rules and regulations for athletes.
- Supervise school equipment and facilities usage.
- Set up an account and enter athletes into meets at least 48 hours before the event.
- Model high standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests.
- Assist in developing budgets for basic equipment (ASB) and capital needs (Levy/General).
- Promote the interscholastic program in harmony with the overall school program.
- Ensure athletes are aware of contest rules and maintain WIAA coaching standards, aiming to become a “preferred” level coach.
- Emphasize safety precautions and injury procedures.
- Attend all meetings called by the Athletic/Activities Director and evaluation meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
- Washington State Teaching Credentials preferred.
- Current First Aid/CPR card.
- Good driving record and willingness to drive a school van.
- 4‑year degree preferred.
- Previous participation or experience at the high school level or comparable community program.
- Knowledge and experience in coaching track and field required.
- Bilingual preferred.

The successful candidate will work professionally with student athletes and their parents, instill high ideals of character, and prioritize the welfare of each student/athlete. They will be an independent critical thinker and a team player, capable of planning practices, events, and organizing the necessary materials and personnel for the sport/activity, and consistently meeting scheduled responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.
SalaryDOE. Additional stipend for post‑season.
Additional RequirementsThe sprint/relay coach must collaborate with hurdle and jump coaches to organize training for multi‑event athletes. While no off‑season training responsibilities exist, the coach should be available for the first three days of spring break or prepare athletes for track camp.
Working EnvironmentThe job requires occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. It involves approximately 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing in a generally hazard‑free, clean environment.
