- Valid South Dakota teaching certificate with a K-8 elementary education degree.
- Knowledge of early childhood development and education.
- Knowledge of different teaching methods and learning styles.
- Knowledge of early literacy and numeracy.
- Knowledge of a range of cultures.
- Ability to plan and implement learning activities that are developmentally appropriate and address all areas of learning.
- Ability to relate well to children and adults.
- Ability to supervise children in large and small areas.
- Skilled in observing child behavior and monitoring learning progress.
- Skilled in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Skilled in the use of technology for instruction and management tasks.
- Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
