Responsibilities- Evaluate and teach in the early childhood special education program.
- Collaborate with regular education teachers to provide integrated programs.
- Work closely with speech, occupational, physical therapists, and other specialists to address various aspects of a child’s development.
- Attend and lead meetings and participate in a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic support.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, progress reports, and communications with parents.
- Ensure compliance with relevant state regulations and reporting requirements.
- A. Applicants must have a valid South Dakota teaching certificate and be eligible for or hold the Professional Preparation #221 Birth-Age 8 Special Education endorsement.
- B. Preferences may be given to applicants with:
- A master’s degree in special education with course work in early childhood education.
- Dual degrees in elementary and special education.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Experience with:
- Science of Reading teaching techniques
- Providing specialized instruction to meet individual needs
- Modifying and adapting teaching strategies for diverse learning styles
- IEP implementation with augmentative communication devices
- Working knowledge of computer technology
- Conducting assessments to identify developmental delays and disabilities in young children
- Collaborating with professionals to gather comprehensive information about a child’s abilities and challenges
- Working with speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other specialists
- Attending and leading meetings as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Maintaining records of assessments, progress notes, and parent communications
- Ensuring compliance with state regulations and reporting requirements
Good physical health, including the ability to lift 30 pounds. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking. Repetitive motion with wrists, hands, and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing, and stooping. Occasional climbing, crawling, and reaching.
Working Conditions- Inside and outside work environment.
