Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA)

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) works under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist to support the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The SLPA assists in implementing therapy plans and strategies, helping students improve communication and swallowing functions.

A. Associate's degree in Speech Language Pathology Assisting

B. Current state licensure or registration as an SLPA

C. Skills include:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow instructions and therapy protocols precisely
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
• Basic computer and documentation skills

D. Preference may be given to applicants with experience working with children or adults with communication disorders.

• Conduct speech language therapy sessions as directed by the supervising SLP
• Follow documented treatment plans and protocols
• Prepare therapy materials and maintain clinical documentation
• Record client performance and report progress to the supervising SLP
• Attend case study, TAT, and faculty meetings in assigned buildings
• Support data collection and assist in assessments (non-diagnostic only)
• Provide services in individual or group settings
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and caregivers to support carryover of therapy goals
• Provide assistive technology services as appropriate
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with ethical and professional standards
• Work in school or home settings
• May require lifting, sitting on the floor, and engaging in play-based therapy
