JOB SUMMARY
:
The Unit Director is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operation of their assigned Boys & Girls Club location. This position leads and supports Club staff, oversees high-quality programs and member experiences, communicates with families, manages the Unit budget, and ensures the Club is safe, welcoming, and operating effectively each day. The Unit Director is an active, hands-on leader who is present throughout the Club, builds relationships with members and families, and works closely with staff and organizational leadership to meet the needs of the Club and community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Club Operations & Program Quality
Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Club, including staffing, schedules, facility needs, member supervision, and daily routines.
Ensure members have access to safe, engaging, age-appropriate, and high-quality programs.
Be present throughout the Club and provide hands‑on support when operational or programming needs arise.
Monitor membership, attendance, program participation, and required Club documentation.
Ensure organizational policies, BGCA standards, safety requirements, and required reporting are followed.
Staff Leadership
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, coach, and support full-time and part‑time staff.
Develop staff schedules that meet Club and member needs.
Provide regular feedback, one‑on‑one meetings, performance reviews, and accountability when needed.
Create a positive staff culture built around teamwork, communication, and high expectations.
Members & Families
Build positive relationships with members and families.
Communicate with parents regarding Club updates, questions, behavior concerns, incidents, and other needs.
Support staff with member behavior, safety concerns, and individual member needs.
Ensure families receive appropriate orientation and understand Club policies and expectations.
Budget & Administration
Manage the Unit operating budget, including staffing, programming, supplies, and other Club expenses.
Make responsible decisions about staffing and resources while maintaining safety and program quality.
Complete required reports, assessments, documentation, and administrative responsibilities on time.
Work with the Chief Operating Officer on budget planning, operational needs, and areas requiring additional support.
Community Relationships
Serve as a positive representative of the Boys & Girls Club in the local community.
Maintain strong relationships with schools and community partners that support Club members and programming.
Participate in Club events, community activities, and organizational meetings as needed.
Hours & Schedule
This is a full‑time, exempt leadership position.
The Unit Director schedule will vary based on the needs and operating hours of their assigned Club. Club hours vary by location and time of year.
During the summer, some Clubs operate from 6:00 AM-6:00 PM.
During the school year, some locations offer morning programming until approximately 8:00 AM and after‑school programming until as late as 7:00 PM.
The Unit Director is not expected to work all hours the Club is open but must have the flexibility to adjust their schedule to provide leadership and support during different parts of the Club day.
Occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, full‑day programs, and special events may be required.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
:
Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
