Summary

The Dennis‑Yarmouth Intermediate School is looking for a special educator to serve as the lead teacher in a program that provides services for students with moderate to severe Autism. The lead teacher will offer a more intensive model of support utilizing ABA, ACE curriculum, augmentative and alternative communication systems, integration of assistive technology, and specially designed instruction with embedded related services to meet each student's individualized education plan objectives.

The program is a substantially separate classroom with appropriate inclusionary practices that focus on growth and independence, as well as transition planning. Therapies from related service providers follow a collaborative and consultative service model to create an environment supportive of individual development and growth. Interdisciplinary teaming provides a continuum of services embedded in learning opportunities throughout the school day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee programming for students in a specialized substantially‑separate setting.
  • Develop, integrate and implement IEPs with clear and appropriate IEP goals and objectives.
  • Design and implement lesson plans and activities utilizing ACE curriculum and student IEP goals and objectives.
  • Attend and participate in TEAM meetings and the evaluation process.
  • Coordinate MCAS Alternative Assessment administration.
  • Use assistive technology devices per the students' needs.
  • Structure classroom environment to provide optimal learning opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders (administration, team chair, parents).
  • Plan for and incorporate inclusion opportunities across the school community, including but not limited to social, emotional, functional, and vocational skill generalization.
  • Develop and maintain an open line of communication to parents and guardians on a daily basis.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent, structured classroom environment geared to support the students' disability for which enrollment in a substantially‑separate setting is required.
  • Work with the district BCBA to develop data‑taking mechanisms and analyze data to drive instruction and monitor student progress. Work with BCBA on BIPs.
  • Work with student's augmentative communication devices.
  • Support school personnel in implementing classroom goals and IEP‑specific goals and accommodations or modifications (ACE curriculum).
  • Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, evidence‑based Autism practices, and identified curriculum, to increase student access, learning, and confidence to learn.
  • Willingness to apply/work for Extended School Year Services (6 weeks) to provide programming consistency to students throughout the summer months in order to maintain skills.
Qualifications
  • MA Teacher Certification required.
  • Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities preferred.
  • Experience with ACE curriculum.
  • Experience/Related Experience with ABA.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
