Overview

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is needed to support a 1st-grade student at an elementary school located in Yelm, WA. This contract position runs through June 10, 2026, providing onsite interpreting services during the school day.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clear and effective sign language interpreting for a 1st-grade student, facilitating communication between the student and classroom staff.
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure the students full access to classroom instruction and activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards for educational interpreters.
  • Comply with all assessment and certification requirements as stipulated by the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB).
Qualifications
  • Passing score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a minimum performance test score of 4.0, or current in the retesting process, or hold the National Interpreter Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
  • If educational interpreter standards are not currently met, must demonstrate ongoing efforts to achieve certification within stipulated timelines per PESB guidelines.
  • Ability to work onsite 6.5 hours per day (6 hours paid plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch), totaling 32.5 hours per week.
  • Previous experience in K-12 educational settings preferred.

Onsite at an elementary school in Yelm, Washington.
