Outside Plant Engineer II, Covering All Lightcurve Service Areas Position Summary

The OSP Engineer II is responsible for the design, documentation, and implementation of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic, hybrid fiber coaxial, and copper networks. This mid-level role combines field and office work, supporting network expansion, upgrades, and maintenance. The position requires collaboration with construction, permitting, GIS, and network planning teams to deliver scalable, high-quality OSP designs that meet compliance standards, Lightcurve standards and project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and standardize HFC network construction methods
  • Prepare construction drawings, splicing schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using CAD/GIS tools.
  • Conduct field surveys, route verification, and feasibility assessments for permitting and right-of-way requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure timely access to customer and network points.
  • Track project progress, manage schedules and budgets, and report risks.
  • Ensure adherence to NESC, NEC, and other regulatory standards as well as Lightcurve standards.
  • Prepare and submit permit packages; coordinate with municipalities, DOTs, and utility companies.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and provide regular updates.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications, or equivalent experience.
  • 4-8 years of OSP HFC and FTTP engineering experience, fiber experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of aerial and underground construction methods, permitting processes, and utility standards.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and splicing diagrams.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with OSP design tools.
  • Understanding of easement, right-of-way, and permit documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and task prioritization skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work both in an office/computer environment and in outdoor field conditions.
  • Frequent use of computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices for documentation, network analysis, mapping, and communication.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and travel regularly between job sites, offices, and field locations.
  • Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access utility easements, cabinets, pedestals, handholes, and telecommunications facilities as needed.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use hand tools, testing equipment, HFC and fiber optic diagnostic devices with manual dexterity and precision.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for identifying color codes and network components.
  • Ability to safely work near construction zones, roadways, utility infrastructure, and active telecommunications equipment.
  • Ability to maintain awareness of surroundings and follow all company and OSHA safety requirements.
  • May require occasional after-hours, emergency response, or on-call work related to network outages or service restoration.
Compensation
  • This exempt position pays $80,200 -$93,800 annually
