Responsibilities
Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Purpose of Your Position
Responsible for developing and implementing a program of specialized instruction for an assigned case load of individual children (infants, toddlers, preschool and school age) based on their IEP goals. Conduct individual evaluations to determine recommendations for TVI services.
This position is Per Diem-on an as needed basis.

Position Functions and Responsibilities
A. Coleman policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with students and their families
Education Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field
- Permanent New York State Certification as Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Special Education
- Complete practicum in special education with specialization in blind/visually impaired
- Experience with children with various orthopedic, developmental and/or multiple impairments especially those related to vision
Employee Requirements:
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written); good problem-solving skills; strong organizational skills; ability to relate to families and work collaboratively with other agency representatives
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently
- Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of Coleman School which includes a medical and physical examination
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
- Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the children’s blood/body fluids
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of children if necessary
- Must hold valid drivers license and be able to travel safely throughout community
- Able to work in a variety of environments such as family residences, day care centers and/or public school buildings
Working Conditions:
- Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area
- Will be subject to frequent interruptions
- May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
Hourly Rate:
$150/Hr.
