As a Student Engagement Coach, you already know that the moments that stick with kids aren't always the ones in a lesson plan — they're the ones where someone kept them locked in, moving, and excited to come back. At Alpha Hours, you'll lead students in grades 3–8 through high-energy afternoons that combine AI-powered academics with hands-on life skills. Your job is to keep students focused, motivated, participating, and excited to come back.
About half your time will be spent guiding students through Alpha's adaptive, mastery-based academic program. The technology handles the academic instruction. You own the room: setting the pace, maintaining high standards, spotting when focus drops, and getting students back on track. The other half is about life skills. You'll facilitate workshops in areas such as public speaking, goal-setting, and collaboration, coaching students until they can show what they've learned.
Alpha is building a different model of education, one designed to help students master academics efficiently and spend more time developing the skills they need for life. This is a part-time, in-person role in Manhattan's Financial District, with a set afternoon and Saturday schedule. • Running high-energy academic sessions:
  Launch sessions, set expectations, and keep 3rd - 8th grade students focused as they work independently through Alpha’s adaptive academic program.
• Leading hands-on life-skills workshops:
  Facilitate activities in public speaking, goal-setting, collaboration, and other practical skills.
• Motivating students in real time:
  Notice when energy or focus drops and intervene quickly to get students engaged and moving forward.
• Coaching students toward visible growth:
  Give clear feedback as students practice new skills and prepare to demonstrate them at the Alpha Test Showcase.
• Owning the room:
  Maintain strong behavior standards, positive energy, participation, and pace from the start of each session to the finish.

• Writing lesson plans, designing curriculum, or grading papers.
• Standing at the front of the room lecturing students through academic content.
• Spending your time providing 1:1 tutoring or individualized special-education support.
• Passively supervising an after school room while students entertain themselves.
• Taking schoolwork home after your scheduled hours.

• Ability to work in person in Manhattan’s Financial District every Monday–Thursday from 3:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., approximately 20 hours per week.
• Currently enrolled in college or have completed a bachelor’s degree.
• Prior work or volunteer experience directly responsible for school-age children, such as in a school, camp, after school program, youth program, coaching, or tutoring setting.
• Ability to independently manage a group of students, maintain clear behavior standards, and keep students focused and motivated.
• Strong verbal communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to give clear instructions and generate active participation.
