Position SummaryThe Senior Director is accountable for the strategic planning, communication, organization, and execution of Specialty Pharmacy operations and initiatives in alignment with the Medical Center's mission and vision. The Senior Director oversees all Specialty Pharmacy functions related to the procurement, distribution, monitoring, and utilization of pharmaceuticals. In partnership with the Medical Staff and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, the position develops systems and services that promote optimal therapeutic drug use for patients.
The role is also responsible for analyzing and managing departmental financial performance and ensuring the quality of all services and activities across the continuum of care. Additionally, this position provides consultative expertise on the Profession and Practice of Pharmacy to health system affiliates. The Senior Director will collaborate closely with Shared Services and offer subject matter guidance on pharmacy-related contracting.
- Develop and approve mission and goals for comprehensive pharmaceutical services and provide high quality comprehensive pharmaceutical services to meet patient needs and accreditation standards.
- Monitor quality of services and evaluate new technology in pharmaceutical systems to improve patient outcomes.
- Manage the pharmaceutical supply chain.
- Oversight of pharmaceutical contracting, procurement, receiving, security, inventory control, continuum, including outsourced sterile products, alternative distribution channels used for drug shortages, reverse distribution and other methods of pharmaceutical waste disposal.
- Assure quality outcomes through performance-improvement activities leveraging pharmacy expertise in support of value-based purchasing, including leading core measures initiatives involving medication therapy. Play an active role in reducing readmissions and owning the process for medication-related customer satisfaction indicators.
- Identify and implement specific ways that the pharmacy enterprise can contribute to the patient's experience.
- Optimize the use of information systems and technology.
- Provide leadership at the organizational level regarding planning, purchasing, implementing and maintaining information systems that support patient care. Commit to achieving patient safety innovations made feasible by electronic health records and other clinical applications.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. >
Continue compliance with all national, state and local regulations related to medications and their management. Fulfill all requirements of the State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS, TJC and other medication management accreditation standards.
- Pharm D is required.
- Must have valid New York State Pharmacist license and registration with ten years+ of working experience.
- Progressively more responsible clinical and management Pharmacy experience working in a health system as a Director of Pharmacy or Clinical Pharmacy Director. (MS or MBA preferred).
