Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Safety & Security leads organization‑wide efforts to protect people, assets, and information by developing, collaborating-on, and implementing policies and post orders, managing security personnel, assessing and mitigating risks and general liability, coordinating emergency preparedness and fire safety, and ensuring full compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards of local authority/NYS DOH/CMS/OSHA. This position oversees safety and security operations at all ESC worksites, serves as a resource and support to the team and models a culture of safety, regulatory compliance, and service excellence.
The Director is responsible for the leadership, training, direction, supervision, evaluation, hiring, coaching and counseling of all security staff.
The Director of Safety & Security establishes and maintains positive relationship with local authorities and emergency responders.
The position requires an on‑site schedule of five days per week and may include weekends and off-hour duties such as conducting fire drills or responding to various situations. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational and communications skills, emotional intelligence, and proven leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
This position covers Safety & Security operations for all programs on the Yonkers and White Plains campuses. The Director operates as a member of the Facilities and Engineering Department team. Other team members include the Director of Engineering (Yonkers), Director of Engineering (White Plains), and Director of Environmental Servicers.
JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety, OSHA, and security programs and policies.
- Coordinate and manage emergency response protocols and procedures.
- Coordinates emergency/safety drills (fire drills, lockdown drills, etc.) as required to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
- Conduct risk assessments and create disaster recovery plans to identify vulnerabilities and threats.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, local safety, DOH/CMS and security regulations.
- Oversee utilization of security technologies systems such as cameras, access control, and life-safety systems consistent with ESPC Policy.
- Liaise with law enforcement, emergency services, and other departments.
- Hire, mentor, and support an exceptional workforce, fostering a culture of growth, teamwork, and professionalism. Drive employee retention by supporting innovative initiatives for recruitment and retention.
- Provide training on safety procedures, incident response, and security awareness to security staff and third-party vendors. Provide and document in‑servicing for Security Officers; ensure and document that all Security Officers are provided with Code Black, Fire Response, Code Lockdown initial and refresher training; ensure that all mandatories and annual training are completed and documented.
- Make rounds of facilities and complete OSHA and Preventative Maintenance Tasks as assigned.
- Write Policy books including Security, Safety, and OSHA Compliance Programs.
- Participate in Safety Committee activities.
- Prepare, manage and maintain schedules for Security Officers in accordance with current policy; demonstrate equity of overtime distribution.
- Manage payroll for Security Officers, ensuring timeliness and accuracy of submissions. Identifies trends in absenteeism and/or other related violations and effectively initiates counseling and/or progressive discipline in accordance with the Elizabeth Seton Children’s policy and procedures.
- Provide reports of security activity to include summary of all incidents, security inspections, and deficiencies. Ensure that evening and overnight shift rounds and activities are documented and reported. Identifies trends and/or areas of concerns; effectively recommends corrective actions.
