Overview

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered care across a diverse behavioral health population. The RN may serve in multiple units, including:

  • Adolescent Psychiatry
  • General Adult Psychiatry
  • Geriatric Psychiatry
  • Mood Disorders
  • Transitional Youth
Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care in accordance with unit policies.
  • Supervise non-RN staff and coordinate patient care activities.
  • Serve as charge nurse when assigned, delegating and overseeing unit operations.
  • Support multiple behavioral health units based on patient needs and staffing priorities.
  • Develop, communicate, and document a plan of care reflecting individualized patient problems and interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and coordinate the plan of care.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care, patient response, and readiness for discharge; revise the plan as needed and make referrals where indicated.
  • Plan and provide education after assessing the individual learning needs of the patient and family.
  • Precept new staff and provide mentorship.
  • Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self development as outlined in performance reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
  • Demonstrate competency in neuro patient care, including airway management, tracheostomy suctioning, and the use of ventilator equipment.
  • Participate in the teaching program and assist with special neuro procedures.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Proficient in electronic patient records and internet literature searches related to patient care.
  • Valid state of Connecticut registered nurse license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Special Skills
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
