Job DescriptionSaint Joseph's Medical Center is seeking a Vice President, Patient Care Services / Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to provide executive leadership for the organization's nursing services and patient care operations. This executive leader is responsible for the strategic direction, administration, and evaluation of nursing services while ensuring the delivery of exceptional, patient‑centered care across the organization.
This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining evidence‑based nursing practice standards, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements, and fostering a culture of clinical excellence, quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished nursing executive with extensive leadership experience in acute care hospitals, a collaborative leadership style, and a proven ability to lead organizational change, improve patient outcomes, and develop high‑performing clinical teams.
Responsibilities- Provide overall leadership and direction for Nursing Services and assigned patient care departments.
- Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate nursing operations to ensure the delivery of safe, high‑quality patient care.
- Establish and maintain nursing policies, procedures, and standards of practice that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards, including those of The Joint Commission, the New York State Department of Health, and CMS.
- Monitor and improve the quality of nursing care through performance improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and quality outcome measures.
- Work closely with physicians, department leaders, and executive leadership to improve patient care, enhance operational efficiency, and support strategic initiatives.
- Oversee departmental budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation to ensure effective and efficient operations.
- Support the recruitment, development, and retention of nursing leaders and staff while promoting professional growth and succession planning.
- Monitor departmental performance, productivity, and financial outcomes, implementing improvements when necessary.
- Serve as a member of the Executive Management Team and participate in organizational planning, policy development, and strategic decision‑making.
- Represent Nursing Services on hospital committees and collaborate with medical staff and other leaders on key organizational initiatives.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement throughout the nursing organization.
- Encourage the use of evidence‑based practices to improve patient outcomes and enhance the quality of care.
- Support initiatives that strengthen patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and regulatory readiness.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned in support of the mission and goals of Saint Joseph's Medical Center.
- Minimum of 15 years of nursing leadership experience with increasing levels of responsibility, including senior leadership experience in an acute care hospital.
- Experience managing nursing services across multiple clinical departments or specialties.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large teams and work collaboratively with physicians, nursing leaders, and other healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of quality improvement initiatives, patient safety standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation processes.
- Experience with strategic planning, budget development, operational oversight, and organizational leadership.
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Nurse Executive Advanced‑Board Certified (NEA –BC) or Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) preferred.

Salary: $350,000 per year
