Assistant Director of Nursing – Pediatric Long-Term Care

About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a compassionate and collaborative Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join our client’s highly respected pediatric long-term care and specialty healthcare organization in Yonkers, dedicated to serving children and young adults with complex medical needs. The annual base salary range is $145,000 to $160,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight for nursing operations within assigned patient care areas
  • Mentor, coach, and develop nursing leaders, charge nurses, and frontline staff to promote professional growth and accountability
  • Ensure safe, evidence-based nursing care that supports each resident’s individualized goals and highest level of functioning
  • Serve as a clinical resource during complex situations while supporting staff, residents, and families
  • Oversee regulatory readiness and ensure compliance with New York State and federal long-term care standards
  • Monitor completion of care plans, clinical documentation, MDS processes, and required assessments
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, infection prevention, medication management, and clinical outcomes
  • Review incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective action plans to improve performance
  • Assist with staffing oversight, scheduling, and workforce planning to ensure appropriate clinical coverage
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and retention of nursing staff
  • Partner with Human Resources and Nursing Leadership on employee performance management, coaching, and professional development
  • Promote a positive, collaborative culture built on communication, accountability, and teamwork
  • Foster strong partnerships with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Participate in care conferences and interdisciplinary meetings to support coordinated, family-centered care
  • Address concerns and assist with resolving resident and family issues in a timely, compassionate manner
  • Promote an environment that prioritizes dignity, safety, and quality of life
  • Assist with departmental budgeting, resource management, and supply oversight
  • Monitor clinical dashboards, documentation reports, and performance metrics
  • Participate in organizational committees, accreditation activities, and policy development
  • Collaborate with clinical educators to ensure staff maintain required competencies and continuing education
Job Requirements
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required
  • Minimum of five years of nursing experience
  • At least three years of nursing leadership or supervisory experience
  • Current or recent pediatric experience required, preferably working with medically complex children or young adults
  • Experience in pediatric long-term care, rehabilitation, complex care, behavioral health, or specialty pediatric settings
  • Strong background in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, change management, and staff development
