Assistant Director of Nursing
Our client, a respected pediatric skilled nursing facility in New York, is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing to help lead clinical operations on a residential care unit. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring excellent, round-the-clock resident care, guiding a team of nursing staff, and acting as an advocate for residents and their families. The ideal candidate brings strong clinical leadership experience in a residential or behavioral health setting, along with the emotional intelligence and change-management skills needed to support both staff and residents through complex care situations.
Key Responsibilities• Provide 24/7 clinical leadership for the unit, setting and monitoring individualized nursing care goals for each resident.
• Directly supervise, evaluate, hire, and manage nursing staff, acting as a mentor and role model for clinical excellence.
• Advocate for residents and families, stepping in to provide guidance and leadership during clinical or behavioral crises.
• Oversee regulatory compliance, including MDS and Care Plan documentation, occurrence reports, and quality/safety audits.
• Coordinate staffing schedules, budgets, and supply levels to ensure consistent round-the-clock coverage.
• Round regularly on the unit to support staff, engage with families, and ensure smooth shift-to-shift handoffs.
• Lead staff training, competency development, and onboarding for new nursing team members.
• Partner with facility leadership on policy review, complaint/grievance resolution, and continuous quality improvement.
Requirements• Minimum of 5 years of RN experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Experience in pediatric/adolescent chronic and restorative care strongly preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related field required.
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
• Active New York State RN License.
• Current BCLS/PALS certification.
• Strong skills in change management, emotional intelligence, and team leadership in a residential or behavioral health setting.
