Occupational Health & Safety, Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Reporting to the Safety and Risk Manager, the Safety Technician assists with the development and implementation of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies and programs across all assigned Empress Ambulance Service sites. The Safety Technician helps ensure the health and safety of all Empress employees and customers, as well as compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and company EHS requirements.
The Safety Technician strengthens Empress's safety and training programs by identifying unsafe behaviors and conditions and coaching employees on safe work practices, serving as an integral part of organizational and cultural change. The primary responsibility is to monitor day-to-day safety measures, performance, and behavior, and to assist operations lieutenants with investigations, coaching, corrective and preventative actions, site assessments, and securing information for claim management.
MajorDuties & Responsibilities
- Apply general industry best practices and safety regulations, including NYS DOH, OSHA, NFPA, and related standards
- Coach safe work behavior and develop preventative safety policies and protocols
- Investigate accidents — analyzing information, determining root cause, and recommending corrective and preventative actions — working both independently and as part of a team
- Use online reporting databases and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to build reports and plan projects
- Lead and deploy projects by applying industry knowledge, analyzing data, and enhancing safety campaign educational materials
- Conduct worksite inspections and audits to identify risks and ensure regulatory and policy compliance
- Monitor, repair, and install vehicle safety equipment, including camera systems and gateways (training provided)
- Assist with Emergency Vehicle Operation training programs and similar initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma required;
Associate's degree preferred - Valid Driver's License with the ability to drive long distances as required
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 (to be completed within 90 days of hire)
The employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. Frequently required to stand and walk; and to sit, climb, balance, step, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Must be able to frequently lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work is performed both outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and/or blood/body fluids. Respirator use (N95) is required. The employee may be exposed to fumes/odors, extended work periods, and temperature variations, and will work with others with exposure to noise and mechanical and electrical equipment.
