The Senior Specialist, Systems Engineer is an intermediate professional with practical knowledge in the job area. Works without supervision to set objectives for own job area. Communicates with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures. Identifies and addresses changes within own job area. Works to achieve operational targets with some impact on departmental results.
Work consists of making basic adjustments to systems and processes to solve problems. Identifies, defines, and addresses general problems that are typically within the immediate job area. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experiences or standard procedures and basic analysis.
- Support digital engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Conduct trade studies.
- Generate requirements specifications.
- Create functional block diagrams, use‑case diagrams, etc.
- Plan integration and test, including generation of plans and procedures.
- Interface with other engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, project, etc.) to ensure proper coordination of the systems aspects of the project.
- Generate and/or update drawings, parts lists, Engineering Orders, wiring lists, diagrams, and schematics.
- Generate Engineering Change Orders.
- Create and present design review materials.
- Verify system interfaces.
- Up to 10% business travel.
- Influence others to accept individual or team views or practices and changes to concepts, practices, and approaches.
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Active US Secret Security Clearance.
- 5+ years of direct engineering experience.
- Direct experience working with at least one of the following technologies:
Underwater Acoustics, Telemetry, Communications, Data Recording systems, and/or Radar. - Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative, drive, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with DOORS requirements management software.
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C., Denver, or NYC areas is $106,500 - $197,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary; final offer amount may vary based on experience and geographic location.
