Our client specializes in custom steel doors and windows and is seeking a hands-on leader with machining and fabrication experience. The Machine Shop Manager – CNC Steel Fabrication is responsible for leading all aspects of machine shop operations, including personnel supervision, continuous improvement, scheduling, quality control, and workflow optimization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, programming, automation, metal fabrication, and proven leadership skills.
What you’ll be doing- Manage daily operations of the machine shop to meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Supervise and support machinists, CNC operators, and fabrication technicians.
- Train, evaluate, and develop staff to strengthen technical skills and operational knowledge.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
- Develop and implement shop procedures that enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality.
- Evaluate capital equipment purchases and automation opportunities to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Production to ensure accurate interpretation of blueprints and specifications.
- Monitor equipment performance and oversee preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain inventory of raw materials, tools, and supplies.
- Track and report KPIs such as throughput, scrap rate, and downtime.
- Minimum 5 years of machining, automation, or precision steel fabrication experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate diverse teams.
- Proven track record of continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated use of Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma is a plus.
- Knowledge of machinery, automation equipment, CNC programming, tooling, and metal fabrication techniques.
- Experience with steel products and architectural metalwork preferred; doors and windows manufacturing is a plus.
- Strong skills in blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measurement tools.
- Experience with shop management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with OSHA standards and workplace safety regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification or degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
