Job DescriptionYork High School is seeking a dynamic educator to join our Department of World Languages. In this part-time role, you will guide novice learners on their path to proficiency, teaching one section of Spanish I and two sections of Spanish II for the upcoming school year. This position operates on an A/B Block Schedule (teaching every other day), offering an incredible opportunity to dive deep into immersive, student-centered lessons during extended instructional blocks.

Design Proficiency-Oriented Lessons:
Plan and deliver high-interest, contextualized lessons for Spanish I and II that develop communicative and intercultural competence across interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes.
Incorporate Authentic Contexts:
Integrate authentic materials and real-world experiences into daily lessons to connect students directly with the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
Implement Modern Assessments:
Design, administer, and evaluate Formative and Integrated Performance Assessments (IPAs) aligned with Maine and ACTFL Standards and the NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements.
We are looking for a collaborative educator who lives and breathes modern language pedagogy. The ideal candidate will possess:
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Foreign Language Education, or a related field.
Certification:
Must hold or be eligible for Maine State certification in Spanish (9-12 Endorsement 440).
Pedagogical Alignment: A deep, demonstrated understanding of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards, second language acquisition (SLA) theories, and proficiency-based grading.
Fluency:
Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish, with an excellent command of English for professional collaboration and community communication.
Collaboration & Leadership: A strong commitment to department-wide collaboration on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student achievement, alongside excellent classroom management skills tailored to high school learners.
Applicants for this position must be committed to department collaboration on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student achievement and must hold or be eligible for Maine State certification in Spanish.
