Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
The ESY Occupational Therapist provides targeted interventions to students who require continued support to maintain functional and developmental skills during the summer months. The focus is on preventing significant regression in areas such as fine motor coordination, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, and activities of daily living (ADLs), as specified in each student's IEP.
- Maintenance-Focused Therapy:
Deliver direct OT services (individual or group) that prioritize the “maintenance” of existing skills rather than the introduction of new developmental milestones. - Sensory Support Systems:
Design and monitor sensory diets or regulation protocols for students in the ESY program to ensure they remain in an optimal state for learning and participation. - Adaptive Equipment Oversight:
Ensure all specialized equipment (e.g., adaptive seating, slant boards, weighted items) is correctly utilized across the summer classroom settings. - Consultative
Collaboration:
Work closely with ESY teachers and Ed Techs to provide “push-in” strategies for fine motor and self‑help skills that can be reinforced throughout the summer day. - Data & Documentation:
Maintain precise service logs for Medicaid billing (where applicable) and record data on specific ESY benchmarks to be shared with the student's year‑round IEP team.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Valid Maine State License as an Occupational Therapist.
- Maine Department of Education Certification (081 - Occupational Therapist).
- Experience in pediatric or school‑based settings, with a strong understanding of sensory integration and neuro‑affirming practices.
