York Ready for Climate Action (YRCA) seeks a mission-driven Executive Director to lead community-based climate action in York, Maine and coordinate with colleagues throughout the region. With oversight from the Board of Directors, the ED will drive the future of YRCA and serve as spokesperson for the organization, oversee programs and events, lead fundraising efforts, expand community partnerships, and ensure strong operations and financial stewardship.
Responsibilities include strategic planning to support the board vision, program execution, communications, volunteer management, compliance and reporting, and oversight of key technology and financial systems.
Ideal candidates have a minimum of 5 years of nonprofit or community leadership experience, strong communication skills, proven fundraising strength, and a passion for climate action and local efforts to help residents build more sustainable day to day lives and make their homes more efficient, affordable, and resilient, with a particular focus on the energy needs of low and moderate income households.
This role has a significant local presence and hybrid candidates must be easily commutable to York, ME.
Leadership & Governance- Provide overall leadership for YRCA operations with oversight and direction from the Board of Directors
- Serve as primary spokesperson to the public
- Foster a strong collaborative network of community and governmental groups to help achieve YRCA strategic objectives
- Strengthen and grow the YRCA brand within the local community and among state-wide peers.
- Lead major new fundraising campaign to support building the organization's capacity and scope
- Work with expert fundraising consultant to formalize regular donor outreach program, submit strategic philanthropic grants, and stage well-attended community events to grow our visibility and impact.
- Plan and execute community programs and events
- Oversee volunteers in program implementation, and evaluate effectiveness
- Establish and regularly report on program metrics and impact
- Provide leadership to standing committees
- Oversee external communications and social media
- Ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging
- Recruit, orient, train, and manage volunteers
- Supervise an Ameri Corps VISTA member
- Ensure compliance with IRS Form 990 and state/federal filings
- Oversee secure storage and retention of organizational records
- Manage technology accounts (Google Workspace, CRM, bookkeeping portals, Stripe, banking apps, , Canva, etc.); assure files are organized for convenient access to appropriate users such as program volunteers as well as overseeing data management systems with a key focus on donor privacy
- Ensure proper handling and reporting of finances
- Collaborate with Treasurer/accountant on budgets and financial records
- Oversee financial tools (Quick Books, Stripe, Little Green Light, banking platforms)
- Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit or community leadership experience
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Proven fundraising experience
- Ability to manage volunteers and multiple programs
- Financial oversight or nonprofit compliance experience
- Commitment to climate action and community energy efficiency initiatives
- Familiarity with nonprofit tech tools (preferred)
