Job Description

The Penn Hills School District, located in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh is currently accepting applications for a Building Principal (Anticipated) - Linton Middle School

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Building Principal (anticipated) - Linton Middle School

TERMS: 240 days per year

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in education preferred.
  • 5 years teaching experience at secondary level and 3 or more years of principal experience appropriate to the position, at the middle school level is preferred..
  • Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Administrative Certificate for K-12 Principal Certification.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Keeps the superintendent informed of the school’s activities and problems.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of unusual events and activities and routine matters related to the supervisor’s accountability.
  • Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and application of effective educational leadership principles, practices and trends.
  • Communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively with students, parents, agencies and staff members.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead change and lead people and the ability to meet District goals with a focus on results.
  • Delegate authority while maintaining accountability.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of and experience in sound management practices.
  • Assist in the development of long and short-range District goals and set appropriate educational priorities.
  • Ability to interact with students, staff and parents.
  • Plan and implement academic and managerial strategies to meet the needs of students and achieve the overall goals of the school district.
  • Proficient in student management and scheduling systems and Microsoft Office.

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain the safety and security of the entire school community.
  • Effectively supervise and evaluate the entire staff assigned to the middle school.
  • Develop and maintain a budget and approve expenditures.
  • Develop a building wide master schedule for students and faculty with a focus on maximizing learning and resources.
  • Develop building wide instructional goals and focus on the results.
  • Review and recommend changes to the curriculum and common assessments.
  • Plan and implement staff development sessions based on best practices in educational research.
  • Review and revise the faculty handbook, student handbook and any policies as necessary.
  • Participate in construction and revision of the curriculum.
  • Observe classes as often as necessary to rate teachers and to aid them in their self‑improvement effort.
  • Promote good public relations in the school.
  • Promote and supervise activities which insure the health and safety of all persons in the building, including all necessary fire drills and building evacuation.
  • Encourage an activity program that includes clubs, athletics, publications, plays, assemblies, intramurals and music groups.
  • Administer student activity fund and approves expenditures made by all the organizations.
  • Establish and supervise procedures for handling absences consistent with school policies for staff and students.
  • Supervise general discipline and positive behavior plan of the building and see that the school district discipline policy is followed and that discipline is fair and consistent.
  • Maintain effective and positive communication with parents and be available at reasonable time when parents wish to talk with him/her.
  • Demonstrate support and pride in the Penn Hills School district; speak and act in a positive manner.
  • Work with the Director of Human Resources to interview and recommend for employment and labor relations for all professional and non‑professional personnel.
  • Work with the central office administration in compiling all the requests of the staff for their instructional needs.
