Position: Prevention Specialist (Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist, Local Government) - Full Time Seasonal

Position

Located in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, Wayne County Drug & Alcohol is seeking a part‑time Prevention Specialist. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and compassionate individual who is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of youth.

Responsibilities
  • Lead prevention programs in schools and community sites based on approved methods.
  • Represent the agency in meetings and groups that work to lower risk factors.
  • Prepare and share educational materials that support prevention goals.
  • Guide teachers and service providers through training sessions and evaluations.
  • Gather feedback and assess needs by speaking with school staff and reviewing data.
  • Enter program details into required systems and maintain accurate files.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Seasonal, full‑time employment.
  • Start time and hours depend on school schedule. Employee works during the school year and occasionally at other times as needed, including overnight travel or out‑of‑county travel for meetings or training. Hours may be irregular, including evenings.
  • Telework: not available for this position.
  • Salary: may be non‑negotiable in some cases.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Experience and Training:
    • One year as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee; or
    • A bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Education, Social or Behavioral Sciences or related fields and one year of experience in drug and alcohol prevention work; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Meet the PA residency requirement.
    • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Legal Requirements:
    • Pass a background investigation.
    • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
    • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
      • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
