Full-Time Personal Care Assistant (PCA)
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. High School diploma required. Meet one of the paraprofessional competency training requirements below:
Two years of post-secondary education coursework (48 college credits) or Highly Qualified Special Education Certificate through PDE or Passing score on the Comprehensive Assessment of Paraprofessional Educators (CAPE) Test or Possess the ability to obtain highly qualified status through educational opportunities provided within the timeline of the district. Prior experience working with students with disabilities. Must have obtained (or will obtain) valid PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Criminal History Background Checks (Use code 1KG6XN) within the last twelve (12) months.

Job Outline:
Personal Care Assistants are assigned to support individual students and are expected to transition with their assigned student as the student progresses through grade levels. This may include moving between buildings (e.g., from elementary to secondary schools) as needed. The purpose of this continuity is to provide consistent and stable support for the student. If the student exits the district, the PCA will be offered any available positions within the district for which they are qualified.
Functions
1. Provide support to individual students in various areas, providing the student with assistance in learning activities, special projects, personal care activities (i.e. toileting transfers, assisting with meals, feeding), logging daily activities, follow-up with the team. Duties will vary depending on the student's needs.
2. Provide in-class assistance to a student with an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)
3. Assist student with staying focused and on-task, monitor and report behavior problems
4. Assist student with completion of homework, class work and classroom projects
5. Become familiar with student's IEP with guidance from the classroom teacher or certified staff
6. Prepare, set-up, and collect materials for student participation as directed by the classroom teacher or certified staff
7. Provide instructional, behavioral and/or physical assistance students - including, but not limited to: the use of assistive technology, on-task prompting, facilitating social skills, toileting and self-care skills
8. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations and Chapter 14
9. Maintain daily activity logs for assigned students
10. Alert classroom teachers to any problems and/or special information about assigned students
11. Assist student to safely transition to locations and environments within and around the school (e.g., bus, cafeteria, bathroom, classrooms)
12. Assist student with activities of daily living including feeding, toileting, and personal care
13. Implement student's behavior, medical, and/or crisis plan
14. Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs
15. Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal, classroom teacher or certified professional

Annual salary, work schedule and other conditions of employment in accordance with the York Suburban Education Support Personnel Association negotiated agreement.
