Job Overview
The Sanitarian Trainee role supports the Safe Drinking Water Program by ensuring public water systems meet state regulations while protecting community health. The position involves hands‑on field work, data review, and support to water system operators.
Responsibilities- Field Inspections: Conduct inspections of public water systems and review data to ensure compliance with state drinking water standards.
- System Reviews: Evaluate water system records, plans, and equipment to confirm safe practices.
- Public Assistance: Provide information to operators, officials, and the public to support understanding of regulations and water safety issues.
- Sampling
Activities:
Collect water samples and verify laboratory results to meet quality standards. - Compliance Support: Identify problems and recommend corrective actions to maintain compliance.
- Travel required within Pennsylvania.
- Telework may be available full time subject to change; otherwise work from Reading headquarters.
- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, engineering, health, geology, biology, ecology, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants considered within 3 months of graduating.
- Active motor vehicle license.
- REAL passport required at the time of conditional offer.
- Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
Full‑time employment, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday–Friday with a 30‑minute lunch break. Starting annual salary $45,907 for new employees; benefits details available in full posting.
